General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems Internship

It all started with a simple question. I wasn’t sure what kind of career path I wanted to pursue when I graduated college, but engineering was at the top of my list. Armed with a solid math and science education, I thought this might be a good time to explore my options, especially since school had just ended for the summer. So one day while walking across campus, I asked myself:

“What do you want to do? What would make you happy?”

I was intrigued by the sense of freedom that comes from working on your own schedule in an outwardly creative atmosphere. There’s no such thing as too much self-exploration or rigor in learning about something new and different every day—and if there is, you’ll find it when you get there because that’s how life works. “Yes,” came my resounding response. “That sounds really great!”

So after some quick research online, I found Rockwell Collins—a company that designs and manufactures products for aerospace equipment (think airframes). The next step was to get in touch with their internship office via email . . . and it worked! They replied back within a few hours, saying they were interested in talking with me more about an internship at their corporate headquarters located in Cedar Rapids , Iowa . The manager who reached out said he’d be calling me later this week to set up an interview time—and sure enough he did! We talked for over an hour on the phone before we went our separate ways. After that call came another one: they’d reserved me a flight on Jet Blue so I could fly down and spend three weeks interviewing with various team members throughout the company’s location!
