CSIS is responsible for the collection and dissemination of intelligence regarding threats to the security of Canada. CSIS does not investigate crime; it collects information that identifies suspected threats to Canada by spying on terrorist groups and foreign governments’ activities within our borders.
CSIS does not detain suspects or make arrests in cases related to terrorism or espionage; this responsibility falls under the jurisdiction of law enforcement agencies such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The RCMP works closely with CSIS when gathering evidence against criminal suspects, who are then charged with violating Canadian law through legal channels like courts or police stations rather than through extrajudicial methods like torture chambers run by secret services overseas (the CIA being one example).
