dstl internships

Dstl’s internships are for people who have finished their first year at university.

Dstl’s internship programme is open to any UK national who has finished their first year at university. We aim to offer a variety of roles across our different centres, so if you’re interested in joining us as an intern, we encourage you to apply for more than one role.

We also have two other opportunities:

  • The Industrial Placement Programme (IPP) is an extended 12-14 month programme for students who want to take a year out from their course. It’s funded through the Higher Education Authority and allows successful applicants to work full time for Dstl during term time and complete their degree (or equivalent) part-time through distance learning. If you’re interested in applying for this opportunity please see our website for more information or contact us directly at [email protected]

If you have the right qualifications and experience we may be able to offer you a work placement through our Internship Programme for Engineers (IIP). This is an exciting opportunity for students who are interested in working for Dstl as an engineer after their studies.

We run two different programmes – the summer internship and the industrial placement programme (IPP).

The summer internship is 10-12 weeks in length and is open to all UK nationals, as well as EU nationals. The industrial placement programme (IPP) lasts 12-14 months and is available to students in science and engineering courses.

Both programmes offer paid work experience and projects to work on during your time with us.

It is a full-time programme with no previous work experience necessary, although applicants should be ready to travel and work abroad for at least 6 months of their time on the programme.

Both programmes offer you the chance to experience a wide range of projects with us. The breadth and depth of our work means that you can find yourself working on anything from cyber-security and data analytics to advanced robotics and artificial intelligence (AI).

You’ll have the opportunity to work with a range of clients, including government organisations, commercial companies and industry partners. By joining us at such an early stage in your career, you will gain invaluable experience from being involved in some of our most high-profile projects.

Working on these projects will give you an insight into what it’s really like working for an organisation like ours. You’ll develop deep knowledge about one or two specific areas within government; this means that when it comes to applying for jobs after graduation, your skills will be highly sought after by employers across all fields – not just those related to defence.

If all that wasn’t enough motivation for you: these internships are great value! If accepted onto either course you won’t pay anything towards tuition fees (except where required by law).

dstl internships are short programmes that offer you hands-on work experience.
