The trip was a chance to see what Cork and Dublin are like, learn about the Irish culture, and meet some of the people who work at Microsoft. I went on the trip with 11 other interns from my team at Microsoft in Seattle. As part of the trip, we visited an elementary school in Dublin to learn about their computer science curriculum.
There were a total of 30 interns on the trip (22 U.S., 7 Canada, 1 Mexico) split into 7 teams with 4-5 on each team.
There were a total of 30 interns on the trip (22 U.S., 7 Canada, 1 Mexico) split into 7 teams with 4-5 on each team. The focus of the trip was to learn more about Microsoft as a company and get more familiar with different business units through meetings with employees. There was also time in the schedule to see what Cork and Dublin are like, learn about the Irish culture, and meet some of the people who work at Microsoft.

Although we only had one day in Dublin, we were able to see several sights, do some shopping, and view Trinity College Library’s Book of Kells exhibit, which includes four pages from a manuscript made in 800 AD that contains the four gospels in Latin text.
And although you only have one day to experience Dublin, it’s a great time to shop, see the sights and visit Trinity College Library’s Book of Kells exhibit. The book includes four pages from a manuscript made in 800 AD that contains the four gospels in Latin text. Learn about the history of this piece, which is still considered to be one of the most important illuminated manuscripts in existence today.
We also got to stay at Trinity College, which was absolutely stunning and an experience I’ll never forget.
This experience was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I could not be more thankful that I got to stay there. If you’re interested in interning at Trinity College, you can find out all about their requirements here http://www.tcd.ie/interns/pages/position_requirements.aspx
Of course, we had to take a picture in front of the university’s famous archway!
When we arrived at Trinity College, we had to wait a few minutes for our guide to arrive, who would be taking us on a tour of the campus. While we waited, I took this photo of my friends in front of the famous archway.
A few things to note:
- We were careful not to get in the way of any students trying to get to class on time, so you’ll notice that there is a small gap from which I took this picture.
- As you can see, we are having some good ol’ Irish fun in front of the school’s main entrance! In fact, according to our guide, this iconic gate was built over 250 years ago and has been pictured in countless movies throughout history. It was very exciting for us all.
Ireland is an amazing country with so much history!
Ireland is an amazing country with so much history. It has been said that Ireland is a place where you are never more than one hundred miles from the ocean. The Irish are known for their friendliness and wit. Ireland has a rich history of arts and culture, but you can also find great music in any pub! There is a lot to see in Ireland – castles, cathedrals, historical sites and museums, mountains, beautiful countryside and coastlines. The weather can be unpredictable with four seasons in one day – but you can always get out your umbrella if it rains!
