Riverkeeper is an environmental organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of New York’s Hudson River and its tributaries. Founded in 1966, Riverkeeper was the first American organization to focus solely on protecting a single river. In addition to advocacy, research and enforcement work on behalf of this beautiful waterway, Riverkeeper also hosts events such as Hudson River Day every year—an event that draws thousands of participants from around New York City.

Sierra club

There are opportunities for environmental law internships at the Sierra Club in many locations. The Sierra Club is a non-profit organization that advocates for a clean, healthy, and beautiful America. It was founded in 1892 by John Muir and other conservationists who wanted to preserve nature. Today it has over 2 million members and supporters across the country.

The best part about working for them is that you’ll get to work with people from all different backgrounds and perspectives on environmental issues. This can be helpful if you’re interested in doing advocacy work but want to make sure there’s room for your opinion within an organization—as opposed to an internship where there might not be any room at all! In addition, they have several programs running year-round which focus on different aspects of their mission statement: protecting wilderness areas; conserving wildlands; protecting oceans; promoting clean energy sources (like solar panels); reducing greenhouse gas emissions; improving air quality; conserving biodiversity; preserving open space land through urban planning laws…the list goes on!

One example of an internship program offered by Sierra Club is called “Environmental Justice Organizing Fellowships.” The purpose of this program is twofold: 1) provide hands-on experience organizing communities around environmental justice issues facing low-income populations in cities like Chicago or New Orleans (and beyond); 2) train future leaders so that they can continue fighting these issues themselves once they leave school!

National Audubon Society

The National Audubon Society is a nonprofit organization that protects birds, wildlife, and their habitats throughout North America. The Office of Environmental Law (OEL) is an interdisciplinary team that provides legal advice to the staff of the Audubon’s conservation program on a wide variety of issues. As part of its work, OEL represents NAC in litigation involving environmental protection and resource conservation; provides input on environmental impact statements; assists with drafting legislation for federal agencies; conducts research into various aspects of conservation projects; reviews contracts related to habitat conservation efforts and other areas where legal expertise may be required; advises on matters concerning endangered species listings under the Endangered Species Act (ESA); handles intellectual property questions arising out of the work being done by scientists at NAC or others associated with our activities; drafts grant proposals seeking funds from private foundations or other organizations interested in supporting our mission or specific research projects within OEL’s purview; responds to requests made under FOIA regarding information held by NAC; works closely with outside counsel in Washington D.C., New York City and Los Angeles when needed but still has primary responsibility for providing all legal services required across all program areas at headquarters here in New York City.”

The Nature Conservancy is a global conservation organization that protects the lands and waters on which all life depends. With more than 1 million members, it is a leading environmental organization whose national network of preserves spans all 50 states and more than 35 countries.

The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends, by protecting plants, animals and natural communities that our future depends upon. The Conservancy has preserved more than 119 million acres (about 48 million hectares) in the United States alone – an area larger than Yellowstone National Park – along with hundreds of thousands of acres elsewhere in North America, South America and around the world.

Environmental Defense Fund

Environmental Defense Fund is a nonprofit organization that is focused on finding practical solutions to environmental problems. EDF has been around for over 50 years and has worked to preserve the environment in the United States and around the world.

EDF’s mission is to protect our natural systems, public health and social well-being through science-based strategies that promote clean air, water, land and energy. The organization uses legal action where it can be effective (such as suing chemical companies over groundwater contamination), but also advocates for policies like renewable energy sources, energy efficiency standards and emission limits on power plants.

Internships are a great way to learn about environmental law.

If you are interested in environmental law, an internship is an excellent way to gain valuable experience and learn about the field. You can find internships on websites like Idealist, which offers hundreds of opportunities for people to work with nonprofit organizations or government agencies.

If you don’t have time for an internship during your summer break, there are other ways to get involved with a green initiative. For example:

• Ask your friends if they know anyone who works at an environmental organization that might be willing to give you some volunteer hours
• Do research on environmental issues in your community and see if there are any local groups working on them
