Product Design

Product Design interns have the opportunity to rotate across different teams and departments over the course of their internships. This gives them a holistic understanding of how flipkart functions as an organization, not to mention an inside look at all the cool technology we use everyday! It’s a great chance for students to get hands-on experience and work on real problems that’ll deliver real results. We’ve hosted interns from IITs and IIMs, as well as international universities like UC Berkeley and University of Toronto. Many have said that their internship at flipkart was one of their best experiences in college. They got to meet with and learn from leaders in the industry, while also connecting with other interns who they now consider friends for life!

Product design roles revolve around creating new features for Flipkart’s website, mobile sites and apps that are loved by millions of users daily.

What it means to be a product designer is a broad term that encompasses the different roles and responsibilities of designers. From the beginning to the end, there are many layers of design, from initial ideation and sketching some ideas, to researching and developing technical solutions to creating final designs for products. The latter part of this process is often referred to as product design—creating new features for Flipkart’s website, mobile sites and apps that are loved by millions of users everyday.

The product design teams at Flipkart work with cross-functional teams from across Flipkart’s business units (eCommerce, Payments (which includes PhonePe), Shopping Cart & Gifting) on various projects like designing new features for our website or optimizing products for mobile devices (like redesigning checkout pages).

There are two main product design roles: Product Designer (PD) and Product Manager (PM). A PM leads a team of Product Designers who work together in designing new features while also working closely with engineers and product managers in other teams to ensure that our customers receive high quality products that they love!

We look for candidates who are keen to solve complex design problems, collaborate with fellow designers to push boundaries of how products should be designed and be passionate about user experience.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in learning to design new features for Flipkart’s website, mobile sites and apps. Successful candidates will be responsible for independently coveying the intended message through their designs while following the brand guidelines. We look for candidates who are keen to solve complex design problems, collaborate with fellow designers to push boundaries of how products should be designed and be passionate about user experience.

Engineering Internships

Flipkart is also committed to enabling a nurturing environment for students by helping them learn and develop professionally. Over the years, Flipkart has had interns from colleges across the country ranging from 4th year college students to PhDs. The interns work on cutting-edge technologies with senior Flipkart engineers, who act as their mentors.

Engineering internships are available in the following domains:

• Infrastructure Engineering: Infrastructure engineers take part in building infrastructure systems that support not just our ecommerce business but also our data management systems and analytics tools. In this area, you will get an opportunity to work with a team of high-performing engineers who are working on various web services like discovery services, checkout flow etc., along with defining architectures for these services. This domain also includes interesting projects involving real-time data analytics using Apache Hadoop and other big data technologies or streaming data using Apache Kafka.
• Product Engineering: Product engineering at Flipkart basically means working on brand new features for the app or site which would help improve user experience. The importance of product engineering can be understood from the fact that it touches millions of users and impacts their day-to-day lives as they shop online and discover new products on Flipkart’s mobile app or website.

Technology enables us to deliver over 8 million products a day to the farthest corners of India. Engineers are the people behind this incredibly robust technology stack that powers one of the largest ecommerce companies in the world.

As an intern at flipkart, you’ll be assigned to a technology team that can best leverage your skills. You’ll be tasked with tackling the challenges of one of the most visited sites in India. During your internship, you can expect to:

Flipkart also offers internship opportunities in areas such as Business Operations Internships and Partnerships Internships.

The business teams at Flipkart work with departments across the company to help drive revenue growth, devise strategies to improve customer experience, identify new marketing opportunities and build relationships with brands that want to join our marketplace and more.

You will work directly with one of our senior team members in a business role and be given real projects- the kind where you might be presenting to your manager, or to other teams or partners. So although it’s an internship, we expect that you will contribute and make a difference. This is your chance to show us what you are made of.
