Students must be enrolled in high school at the time of application. The deadline for submitting applications and required documents is early March. The application process will include three steps.
Students interested in science can apply to participate in a summer research internship at Scripps, a renowned medical institution. While at Scripps, students may also apply for scholarships, fellowships, and awards offered by national organizations. After returning to campus, interns will submit a brief report. If accepted, students may be asked to participate in information sessions. The Scripps campus is located near the UC San Diego campus.

High school student Carolyn Yu is interning in the immunology and pathology lab at Stanford Blood Center. She is the only high school student in the lab. She also has the opportunity to attend weekly group sessions, attend presentations, and engage in hands-on science activities.
The program aims to develop research skills, foster diversity in STEM fields, and promote equitable access to higher education. Students are paired with faculty mentors in research projects and conduct fieldwork, and attend professional development workshops and a final research symposium. While at Stanford, interns also earn a stipend of $500. For this unpaid internship, students from a diverse range of backgrounds are welcome.
The summer program will begin June 13 and run until August 4, 2022. Students must commit to the whole program, which is four hours a day, five days a week. Students will work from 9am to 1pm, Monday through Friday. The program is free for high school students, but students must live in the area to apply. They will continue to prioritize students from the community and Stanford’s local school district.
