- A minimum overall GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0 (be sure to include your GPA in your resume).
You will be competing with a lot of other students for this internship, so you need to distinguish yourself by being in the top 25% of students in your class. Most companies will not consider candidates with a GPA less than 3.5 because they are trying to attract the best talent and they know that those students with higher GPAs are more likely to obtain advanced degrees after graduation (which is something most companies want). You may be competing against candidates who have higher GPAs than you, but you need to make sure that yours is as high as possible by taking advantage of some or all of the following strategies:
Be proficient in English language and able to communicate effectively
As an intern, you need to be able to communicate effectively with your colleagues and superiors. The most important skill is proficiency in the English language. If you are proficient in another language, this could also be useful. You may be asked to give presentations or write reports that will require a high level of communication skills in English. You will also have to listen to other people’s presentations and read their reports, so it is essential that you are able to understand them.
To get your message across clearly, keep the following in mind:
- Remember your audience
- Use active voice instead of passive voice (for example, say “Carol threw the ball” instead of “The ball was thrown by Carol”).
If you can’t take part in a meeting or presentation because of travel plans or illness, let someone know as soon as possible.
Have the ability to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future
To be considered for a job at Chevron, you must be able to work in the United States without Chevron having to provide you with an immigration-related work authorization visa.
You are responsible for obtaining your own employment eligibility visa, such as an H-1B visa.
You also may need to obtain your own permanent resident (“green card”) status and citizenship.
