Internships for IT students

There are a lot of great full-time opportunities for IT students, but internships can also be a great way to get your foot in the door at some of the world’s top tech companies. In addition to providing valuable work experience, internship programs are an opportunity for companies to identify and nurture future talent. Some positions will even lead to job offers after graduation!

If you’re looking for an IT internship, there are lots of startups and larger tech companies that hire interns each year. Here are some of the most popular:

• Twitter. Twitter is one of the world’s most popular social media platforms and is used every day by celebrities, journalists, politicians and other influencers as a platform for sharing their opinions on anything from pop culture news to global politics.
• Adobe Systems Inc. Adobe is probably best known for its creative software like Photoshop and Illustrator (which you may have used in a design class), but it offers more than just programs for artists and designers. The company has offices all over the world, from San Francisco to Tokyo.
• Dropbox Inc. Dropbox offers cloud storage services that allow users to store all their files in one place so they can access them anywhere with an internet connection (or on their phone!). The company also provides data security services so customers can feel confident that their important files are safe from hackers or accidental deletion

You’re here. You’ve arrived. You are now a fully fledged IT student with no real idea what you want to do when you leave university.

Internships are a great way to get experience. If you don’t have experience, you won’t get hired.

I’m going to give it to you straight: internships are a win-win for the company and for you. You get paid (and sometimes college credit) and the company gets free labor doing actual work that needs to be done. It’s important for companies hiring interns to make sure that the work is challenging enough but not overwhelming, and it varies from industry to industry how long an intern has to prove their worth before getting a full-time job offer at the end of their internship.

Don’t worry – that’s not a problem. What is a problem is that you need to get some experience under your belt before you even dream of entering the world of work. And that experience needs to be relevant, interesting and something that could potentially lead to a job. In other words, an internship.

Here’s a list of some of the kinds of internships, which can be found all over the internet:

• Journalism internships: If your dream is to be an investigative journalist and break that story that will change the world, you’ll need to start small. Entry-level positions at news outlets are few and far between and it’s not uncommon for people to work as an unpaid intern for months before getting a paid job. Get ahead by accepting an internship in journalism – you’ll get hands-on experience and make contacts within the industry.

• Architecture internships: An internship with an architecture firm will allow you to see what really goes into designing buildings and structures. You might even get the opportunity to work on projects yourself if you have previous experience with CAD software or other design applications.

• Engineering internships: Engineering is another career path where an internship can give you valuable experience and insight into what your future role could look like. Many engineering firms offer summer placements for students looking to gain some practical, hands on knowledge before applying for graduate jobs.

The good news is, as an IT student there are hundreds of internships out there waiting for you to apply to them. It’s just a case of finding the right one. Here are 11 examples to get you started:

• Accenture is a global consulting firm that helps companies explore new ways to work and offers graduate and summer programs in several countries across the world.
• Google offers internship opportunities in engineering, sales and marketing, HR, finance and operations, business development and more during the summer months at its offices around the world.
• The Lego Group offers a range of paid internships throughout Europe each year in areas such as logistics, finance and IT.
• Microsoft runs technology-focused internship programs in software engineering, data science and design for undergraduates in over 20 countries worldwide.
• Ocado Technology is creating sustainable software solutions for businesses through automating processes such as robotics or machine learning and interns can undertake projects in any of these areas at its UK office locations.
• SAP has offices all over Europe including Poland, Germany, France Ireland and Sweden where it runs internship programmes focused on software development for students studying computer science or related courses.

Internships at Facebook

Facebook offers many internships, so if you want a role at this company, you’ll have many opportunities to find a role that matches your interests. Facebook offers internships in Menlo Park, California; New York City; Seattle; and London. If you’re interested in working at Facebook as an intern, the roles are listed on their careers page. Students who hope to one day work in almost any industry will benefit from hands-on experience with some of the most advanced technology available today. Plus getting used to working with this technology now means you’ll have an advantage over your peers when it comes time to looking for full-time jobs later

Internships at AWS (Amazon Web Services)

• AWS internships are offered in various departments, such as software development and engineering, marketing, sales, and more. If you are interested in software development and engineering, you can apply to the AWS Internship program if you have completed at least one year of your bachelor’s degree program or at least one quarter of your master’s degree program by the time the internship begins. If you are interested in internships outside of software development and engineering, such as marketing or sales, you will need to apply through the Amazon Future Engineer Internship Program.
• AWS locations include Seattle (Washington), San Francisco (California), Herndon (Virginia), New York City (New York), Austin (Texas), Denver (Colorado) and more. You may be required to relocate depending on where an internship opportunity is available.

Internships at Siemens

• Siemens offers internships in software, IT security and IT project management in locations all over the world, including Germany, India, and the United States.

• Internships are paid, last for approximately three to six months (depending on location), and are designed for students in their penultimate year of university.

• All interns will be assigned a mentor who will provide invaluable guidance throughout your internship. The goal is to help you develop a network of professional contacts that can have lasting impact on your career.

An internship will give you real-world experience and could lead to a job offer

An internship is an excellent way to get your foot in the door at a company and find out what you like and don’t like. You’ll be exposed to many different roles in the field, along with their corresponding skill sets and responsibilities. By experiencing a variety of roles, you’ll begin to figure out where your own strengths lie. During your internship, make sure to ask questions about different jobs across the IT department. During an internship, companies may choose not only to give you invaluable work experience but also pay you for your time! This can be incredibly beneficial since it allows you to earn money while gaining experience. If companies do not offer payment during internships but still expect interns’ time commitment just as if they were full-time employees (i.e., 40 hours per week), they should provide interns with a stipend or other form of compensation such as free meals or transportation reimbursements.
