internships for student nurses
The National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) offers an internship program to help students gain experience.
The National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) offers its members an internship program during their junior and senior years in college. The goal of the program is to give students experience in a clinical setting, allowing them to gain hands-on skills that will be useful when they graduate and start working as nurses. It also assists with networking, helping students meet potential mentors who can help them transition into the workforce.
An NSNA internship is an invaluable experience for student nurses: it allows them to build connections within the profession, allow themselves more exposure to nursing practice in all its forms, develop confidence in their professional abilities, and make valuable contacts for when they enter the field after graduating.
The program includes mentoring from experienced nurses with whom you will get regular one-on-one time; these mentors are usually department directors or other high-ranking professionals who have had successful careers in nursing administration or practice themselves and can share their wisdom with you directly.* The link between your mentor’s role at work and your own career aspirations will help keep you motivated throughout this stage of training.*
