UNESCO World Heritage Sites are places of importance to cultural or natural heritage as described in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention (WHC). In 2007, there were 878 sites worldwide with 695 being cultural and 183 natural sites. The WHC is an international treaty ratified by 193 United Nations member states that defines criteria for choosing which sites get included on their list and how those sites are managed once they are designated as such.

Advantages: The advantage of staying in the local home is that you will experience life as an expat in Vietnam. You will get to know your host family better and they can teach you about their culture and language. You may also have access to air-conditioning, laundry service (if requested) and meals cooked by your host family. If travelling alone or with friends this may be the best option for you as it gives you more privacy than staying in a dormitory setting.

Disadvantages: It’s important to note that more often than not when choosing this option there is no wifi available at your accommodation site so if internet connectivity is something that’s important for keeping in contact with friends/family back home then it may not be ideal for you as most hotels offer free wifi nowadays anyway! Another disadvantage would be lack of safety since these homes are usually located outside city centres so there isn’t always 24 hour security on site like there might be at some hotels which can make those who feel uneasy about being away from familiar surroundings feel less secure when exploring new parts of town late at night etc….
