The New York Times

The New York Times is the most prestigious news organization in the world. It’s been around since 1851, and it employs roughly 2,500 journalists.

The Times offers a lot of opportunities for interns to work with some of the best reporters and editors in the business—and learn from them while they’re at it. As an intern at The New York Times, you’ll have a chance to practice your skills by working on a variety of projects that cover topics like politics, sports reporting and cultural criticism.

The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal is a daily newspaper published in New York. Founded in 1889 by Dow, Jones & Company, it is the largest newspaper in the United States by circulation and an influential news source for business, finance and politics.

The WSJ’s internship program offers opportunities to work with both digital and print teams to get hands-on experience with journalism across all media platforms. Internships are only available at The Wall Street Journal’s New York office; if you’re interested in working there on an internship but live outside of New York, you’ll need to relocate for the duration of your time as an intern.

As part of the application process for this opportunity, you’ll need to submit samples of your written work along with a cover letter explaining why you would like to participate in this program (and what specifically about their journalism interests you). You will also be required to write an essay on one specific topic related directly or indirectly back into more general themes discussed within some recent articles published by The Wall Street Journal

Bloomberg

The Bloomberg internship program is a paid opportunity for students to gain experience in finance, technology and other business areas. The program has been around since 1999 and gives students the chance to work with professionals in their field while gaining skills that will help them succeed after graduation.

Reuters

Reuters is a global news network that covers all areas of the world. Internships at Reuters are available in the following departments: Editorial, Technology, Editorial Operations and Editorial Training.

The internships offered by Reuters are based on the needs of the business and may change from year to year. Applicants must be graduates or current students who have completed their first year of university or post-secondary education with an interest in pursuing a career in journalism.

Internships are unpaid but interns receive assistance with student loans from the company through its internship program called “Student Business Loan” or “SBL.”

Los Angeles Times

If you’re interested in a career in journalism, a summer internship at the Los Angeles Times may be perfect for you. The newspaper’s headquarters are located in downtown L.A., but they offer opportunities throughout Southern California—from breaking news to sports reporting, from arts and entertainment to photo editing and digital media production.

Interns will work closely with editors, reporters and photographers to gain hands-on experience producing content for print or online platforms. They may also have opportunities to attend events such as live music concerts and sporting events as well as cover them for their publications.

San Francisco Chronicle

The San Francisco Chronicle is a newspaper based in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1865 by Charles de Young and Michael de Young, it is the oldest continuously published newspaper on the West Coast of the United States. The newspaper has won 20 Pulitzer Prizes for its reporting. In 2018, its circulation was about 30,000 daily or 60,000 on Sundays; it is now about 25% lower than that.[2]

The paper was sold to Hearst Communications International (now Hearst Communications) by the de Young family in 2000 through their shareholdings in Knight Ridder such as The Philadelphia Inquirer (the other half of which had been sold to McClatchy Company).

Seattle Times

Seattle Times is a major daily newspaper in Seattle, Washington. The newspaper offers internships to college students who are enrolled in or recently graduated from a four-year college or university.

• The Boston Globe is an American newspaper based in Boston, Massachusetts.
• This internship is for students who are interested in a career as a journalist.
• As an intern at The Boston Globe, you can work on columns, features, and investigative pieces. You can also get involved with the metro, business, sports and features desks.
• Previous interns have been offered full-time positions after their internships have ended.

Las Vegas Review-Journal

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is a newspaper owned by the family of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. It is the largest circulating newspaper in Nevada and has a daily circulation of about 185,000. It serves the Las Vegas metropolitan area and is the largest newspaper in the state of Nevada.

The Review-Journal’s roots go back to 1905 when it began as a weekly called The Las Vegas Age, which was published by former police reporter George Blake and his brother Frank after they bought out another publication called The Evening Review. Six years later, they combined forces with The Las Vegas Telegram to form a new paper called The Evening Journal, which was later shortened to The Las Vegas Journal-Review (hence “review” became part of its name). In 1931, it was acquired by Mort Glankoff and John Oakes who renamed it simply “The Las Vegas Review-Journal” because it had already been known as such before their ownership began. Oakes later sold his share back in 2014 but stayed on as an adviser until his death last year at age 102; he also served as editor from 1962 until 1988 when he retired at age 71
