Allen Overy summer vacation scheme

The Allen Overy Summer Vacation Scheme is open to students who are interested in international law and business. Interested students must have at least one year of work experience, including an internship or other placement.

The internship offers the opportunity for you to learn more about the practice of commercial law and gain an insight into what it’s like working at a leading City law firm. You’ll also prepare for your career by taking part in training courses throughout the summer vacation scheme, which will include:

• A week-long induction programme
• A series of seminars held by Allen & Overy staff on topics such as contract drafting, commercial negotiations and legal research techniques
• An opportunity to attend lectures from guest speakers

Norton Rose Fulbright vacation scheme

Norton Rose Fulbright vacation scheme is a two-week internship program with a focus on legal research and drafting. The internship is open to final year law students and undergraduates from any country, but you must have at least an upper second class honours degree in order to be eligible for this internship.

Linklaters vacation scheme

Linklaters Vacation Scheme

• Dates: 15 July – 21 August 2019.
• Deadline: 10 March 2019 (midnight). The scheme is open to students who have completed their second year of university or law school.
• Number of places: 30 per year, split equally between two intakes (15 July to 21 August and 15 September to 20 October). There are no age restrictions, but candidates must be able to work full-time throughout the duration of the vacation scheme. Candidates should submit their personal statement by email along with a CV and cover letter explaining why they would like to participate in this programme by Friday 10 March 2019 at midnight via careers@linklaters.com
• Pay: £3,500 per week plus accommodation allowance

Clifford Chance vacation scheme

• You must be in the penultimate year of your degree.
• You must have a 2:1 or above.
• You must have achieved at least 280 UCAS points, which are calculated using a combination of your degree classification and your results in pre-university qualifications (GCSEs or A levels).
• You should also have achieved at least grade B in GCSE English and Maths.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer vacation scheme

The Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer vacation scheme is a two-week internship, one week in London and one week in Paris. The application process is online and you will be assessed on your written application, online tests and interviews.

Slaughter and May vacation scheme

The Slaughter and May vacation scheme is a two-week programme, intended for penultimate year students. The internship is open to law students at recognised UK universities, who will be placed in two of the firm’s departments. Each intern will be allocated a supervisor and a trainee buddy.

The purpose of this internship is to enable you to experience some aspects of life within our firm and develop your understanding of what working as a lawyer is like. The intention is that you leave us better prepared than when you started on your career path.

Herbert Smith Freehills is a global law firm, headquartered in London. It has offices in 26 locations worldwide and over 4,000 employees. The firm was founded in 1882 as Herbert Smith & Co by Richard Herbert and Charles Boonen (who would become Lord Mersey). In 1988, it became a limited liability partnership and merged with Freehill Lamb & Wilkins (Freehills).

In mid-2018 the firm made headlines when it announced that it would be shedding nearly 100 lawyers from its London office due to Brexit concerns.

Hogan Lovells vacation scheme

Hogan Lovells is a multinational law firm with offices in London, New York, Washington D.C., Paris and Brussels. They offer a 12-week vacation scheme in their London office for law graduates who have obtained a minimum of 2:1 degree or equivalent (or overseas equivalent). The internship includes preparing case documents and briefing clients on complex legal issues; building client relationships; making suggestions for new business development opportunities; attending client meetings and networking events.

The application process consists of an online form which needs to be completed by February 28th 2019. You must also provide an up-to-date CV and references from academics or employers (which can be uploaded directly to the website). Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP is a top-tier law firm with offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Chicago and London. We are looking to recruit exceptional summer vacation scheme students who want to gain practical experience of working at a prestigious law firm while they continue their studies.

You will receive training on key areas of substantive law provided by experienced members of our team during two weeks of paid work at the firm. You will also participate in an introductory programme designed to provide you with opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge before joining us as interns in September 2019 or 2020 (depending on your course).
