Long Island City, New York

Long Island City is a neighborhood in the western part of the borough of Queens, New York City. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by Newtown Creek and on all other sides by water. The section of Long Island City that lies east of Astoria Boulevard (the East River) is sometimes regarded as a separate neighborhood from Long Island City; it was formerly known as Ravenswood.

The area has been described variously as “a striking place where people live and work”, “one of New York’s most promising places to live and work” (given its proximity to Manhattan), and “[a]n emerging center for artists”. It has also been praised for its high quality architecture, with over 600 buildings designed by architects such as Philip Johnson, Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Morris Hunt, Ernest Flagg and Robert Stern having been built since the early 20th century.
