A real-world internship will require you to do grunt work, but it’s a good idea to have some experience in the field before taking on a grunt job. If you’re going through an apprenticeship or a co-op program where you get paid for your time, that can give you some experience and help build up your resume. However, if you’re just getting into the industry and need to build up your portfolio or portfolio website as well as gain experience, then consider doing some freelance projects on sites like Upwork or Fiverr. You’ll still be able to add these projects onto your resume and get them featured on your portfolio website which will look great when applying for jobs at studios later down the line!

A lot of people who got their start in entertainment did so by being interns first—for example Jay-Z started out as an intern at Uptown Records before becoming president of Def Jam Recordings!
