Freshman Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded based on academic merit:

• Freshman Scholarships – These awards are available to incoming freshmen who have graduated from high school within the last 12 months and have been admitted to Auburn. They are based on academic merit, with a minimum GPA requirement of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
• National Merit/Achievement Scholarships – These scholarships are awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) based on academic achievement in high school and standardized test scores. They can range from $1,000 per year up to full tuition coverage for four years at Auburn University. The average award is $8,000 over four years ($2,000 each year).

Section: Freshman Academic Scholarships

Freshman Academic Scholarships are awarded to students entering Auburn University for the first time based on academic achievement, leadership, and extracurricular activities. Recipients are selected from the pool of admitted freshmen.

Scholarship amounts vary per year and are determined by several factors including: the student’s grade point average (GPA), test scores (ACT or SAT), class rank, race/ethnicity, residency status and participation in Auburn Activities Council events.

Section: National Merit/Achievement Scholarships

National Merit/Achievement Scholarships are awarded to students who have been selected as finalists in the National Merit or National Achievement Scholarship competitions. The competition is based on junior-year P.S.A.T. scores and high school performance, with no consideration given to financial need or academic achievements other than those related to the P.S.A.T., including but not limited to grades and rank in class, participation in academic competitions (e.g., science fairs), AP Exams, Honors Courses and AP Scholar Awards.

The Auburn University Office of Financial Aid can provide information on how much these awards are worth at Auburn University as well as other institutions.

Section: Other Academic Scholarships

Other Academic Scholarships:

• The Auburn University General Academic Scholarship is available to any undergraduate student enrolled for credit at Auburn University. You must have a minimum 3.4 GPA and be in your first year of study at the university. This scholarship can be renewed for each succeeding academic year so long as you meet all eligibility requirements and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 while taking 12 or more semester hours in courses numbered 3000 or above, not including extension courses taken during summer sessions. The scholarship amount is $1,000 per academic year ($500 per semester).
• The McKethan’s Bookstore Scholarship Award is available to full-time students with a minimum 2.5 GPA who are enrolled in 10 or more hours of coursework each semester and have completed 30 credit hours by the end of their first year at Auburn University (must also have declared an academic major). Recipients must enroll full time each subsequent semester until graduation from Auburn University; otherwise, they will forfeit their award for that semester (they may re-apply every semester if eligible).
• The Hesse Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship is open exclusively to members of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity who are full-time students majoring in business administration with a 2.5 GPA or higher; recipients must enroll full time each subsequent semester until graduation from Auburn University; otherwise they will forfeit their award for that semester (they may re-apply every semester if eligible).

Section: Honors College Academic Scholarship

To be eligible for the Honors College Academic Scholarship, you must:

• Be admitted to Auburn University as an undergraduate student.
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.* Demonstrate financial need (you may use the FAFSA application or submit a CSS Profile).

The program is open to any full-time undergraduate student who has been accepted into the Honors College and is enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester. To apply for admission to the Honors College before January 15, 2019, visit http://www.honorscollege.auburn.edu/apply/.

Section: Transfer Scholarships

• Transfer scholarships are awarded to students who have earned at least 24 transferable hours and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA prior to enrolling at Auburn.
• Be sure to include all of your transfer work in your application for admission. You will not be considered for any scholarships if you do not include this information on your admission application.
• Check your status online after the first week of classes each semester by going to the financial aid homepage and clicking “Scholarship Information.” If you see a message that says “We have reviewed your scholarship application, but there are no awards available right now,” then continue checking back every 3-4 weeks throughout the semester as more awards may become available later in the year.
• If no scholarships appear under “Financial Aid Status” after reviewing all documents, contact us at (334) 844-4653 or finaid@auburn.edu with specific questions about our policy regarding transferring credit hour requirements before completing another year of study elsewhere; we cannot accept additional course work from other institutions unless it’s necessary for graduation from Auburn University or if it’s been preapproved by the appropriate faculty member(s).

The Office of University Scholarships will provide scholarship opportunities to incoming transfer students, as well as current students and recent graduates.

All merit scholarships are renewable for up to four years as long as you maintain your academic standing in good standing with a 3.0 GPA or above.

Scholarship funds are awarded based on freshmen and transfer class rank within each entering cohort (i.e., those newly admitted for a given year). Scholarship amounts vary by departmental need; however, most awards range between $4,000 – $9,000 per year depending upon the level of competition for that particular scholarship category.#ENDWRITE
