Soccer

When you play soccer, you’re playing for more than just the love of the sport. If you’re hoping to pursue a career in soccer after high school or college, then it might be worth applying for a scholarship.

Scholarships are available to help cover costs associated with athletic training and competition. These scholarships can be used at any post-secondary institution that offers sports programs; they’re not limited to just universities. In fact, there are even scholarships available through professional leagues like Major League Soccer (MLS) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

To qualify for these types of scholarships, applicants must meet certain requirements: they must be current high school seniors or current college athletes who plan on continuing their education at an accredited institution in the United States after graduation/the conclusion of their athletic careers; they must have participated in one of three divisions—junior varsity, varsity or club—during their last season; and they must have a GPA above 2.5 on either an unweighted 4-point scale or weighted 0–100 scale depending on their school’s requirements.

Volleyball

  • For volleyball players, there are numerous opportunities to earn scholarships. The NCAA reports that the organization awarded 1,956 full and partial scholarships to female volleyball players in 2017 alone—with nearly 60 percent of those going to Division I schools.
  • To be eligible for a volleyball scholarship, you must have at least a 2.5 GPA (or its equivalent) and meet other academic requirements based on your chosen college’s standards.
  • If you’re interested in applying for a volleyball scholarship, first contact the coach of your school’s team to find out about deadlines and other information about how to apply. You can also use our tool below:

Golf

Golf scholarships are common, but they are also hard to get. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and other organizations offer golf scholarships to students who excel at the sport. There are also many smaller golf scholarships available, especially at the Division III level.

Once you’ve narrowed down your options based on the schools themselves or their academic programs, start looking into scholarships that may be available through an athletic department. Many schools offer athletic aid in general as well as specific sports-related awards such as academic or leadership honors; some schools even have separate scholarship funds for their athletes if they don’t already sponsor one through their athletic department.

Cross Country

  • The summer training program is a series of five-day camps during which participants will learn the fundamentals of cross country. Coaches at this camp are all highly qualified and have years of experience in the sport.
  • In order to be eligible for a scholarship, participants must be able to run 5 miles in 45 minutes or less. They also need to meet specific height and weight requirements if they are going to compete at any level other than high school.
