There are currently over 20 different parliinternships available, allowing you to select something that matches your interests and skills.
If you’re considering applying for an internship at Holyrood, here’s what we think you should look out for:
- make sure it’s a topic you’re interested in; don’t settle for one just because it sounds good on paper or has attracted lots of applicants this year! The best way to find out if an internship is right for you is by reading up on what it involves before making any decisions

The Parliamentary Corporate Body (PCB) runs an internship programme, which is open to anyone studying for or within one year of completing their second level academic qualification, who is aged between 16 and 25 and has lived in Scotland for at least one year.
The Parliamentary Corporate Body (PCB) runs an internship programme, which is open to anyone studying for or within one year of completing their second level academic qualification, who is aged between 16 and 25 and has lived in Scotland for at least one year. The PCB’s programme provides a wide range of placements on the parliamentary estate and may be suitable for both students studying politics and those with other interests such as social media management, public relations or journalism.
The internships are designed to provide practical experience of how Parliament operates from within its walls; they also complement classroom learning by giving interns the opportunity to work with real staff members who have a wealth of experience in many different areas of work within Parliament – whether it’s attending debates and committee meetings or researching policy or working on communications projects.
PCB also runs a scheme for post-graduate students who have completed their undergraduate degree and are now studying for their masters or PhD. This scheme is also open to graduates who have been out of education for less than two years.

Applications must be made directly through the UK government’s Studentship website, which does not accept duplicate applications from any other source (including other funding bodies). - They are based in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city. You must live in or around Edinburgh (or be willing to move there) for your internship period.
- If you’re interested in an internship at the Parliament of Scotland or the Scottish Parliament, you can apply for one anytime throughout the year via their website. Your application will only be considered if it meets their criteria (e.g., you have completed your degree by June 30th). Please note that they prioritize applications early on – if you would like to be considered for a summer internship this year, we recommend applying by mid-December at the latest!
