The European Campus Rottal-Inn is a joint initiative between several universities in Germany and Austria which aims to provide unique opportunities for undergraduate students from all over Europe to spend their summers studying and doing research at one of our partner institutions. In particular, we are looking for individuals interested in researching topics related to material science and engineering such as polymers, biomaterials, tissue engineering/regenerative medicine and more! The interns will work on innovative research projects in fields related to material science and engineering, including but not limited to polymers, biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

The interns will work on innovative research projects in fields related to material science and engineering, including but not limited to polymers, biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Topics include polymer blends for biomedical applications; cell-based hydrogel scaffolds; 3D printed tissue models; bioactive nanoparticles; design of smart materials based on molecular self-assembly techniques; anisotropic nanoparticle synthesis using light-induced surface modification; the properties of bionanocomposites with applications in food packaging.

The application deadline is 20 March 2020.

At the end of the summer internship, each intern will give a short oral presentation of their results.

You will give a short, oral presentation of your research results. The presentation will be in German, and recorded. It will be uploaded to the DIT website for public viewing and available for at least five years (including after you have graduated). Your supervisor(s) will also receive an electronic copy of the presentation.

In addition to your research project, you will also have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with German culture and society through company visits and excursions as well as attendance of events at our university.

The research project itself is your main focus during your stay at Deggendorf University, but there are many options for self-development outside of this project: You can improve your language skills by learning German or English in small groups, join a sports club or attend cultural events organized by the university or the city of Deggendorf.

You will work closely with your research supervisor, who has extensive experience in polymer chemistry and is able to provide you with dedicated guidance and support throughout the project. The DIT campus is located in a quiet suburb of Dresden, close to several well-preserved historical buildings.

The aim of this research project is to synthesize a new type of high molecular weight polymer that can be used as an additive for concrete. In order to achieve this goal, you will be required to carry out experiments using a range of analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis by infrared spectroscopy (IR).
