NIH’s National Environmental Public Health Internship Program

Through the NEHA’s online community, the program helps students make valuable connections. This program also supports diversity in the EH workforce. Approximately 45% of former interns said that NEPHIP influenced their decision to go into environmental health.
Applications for NIH’s summer internship program are extremely competitive, and more than 6300 people were selected for the program in 2013. Typically, applications are reviewed from November through April. Individual scientists select their summer interns, and the program does not have a centralized selection process. Nonetheless, you can increase your odds of being selected for an internship by reviewing the SIP FAQs. In addition to submitting a resume, you must list two references.
Students must be at least 16 years old at the time of the internship. They must also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. To be eligible, students should be enrolled in high school or a college or university in the U.S. and have at least one year of office experience. Loma Linda University’s Undergraduate Training Program (UTP)
The Undergraduate Training Program at Loma Linda University is a nine-week summer research internship. It gives students hands-on research experience while they are under the mentorship of faculty and graduate students. The program supports the university’s mission to eliminate health disparities and increase diversity in scientific research. This program is supported by the National Institute on Minority Health Disparities. It is designed for students interested in a Ph.D. in math or science.
The Undergraduate Training Program at Loma Linda University includes both theoretical and practical coursework in modern biology. It also aims to integrate young people into a growing scientific community. This program is funded fully by the university and enrolls 25 students from across the globe. In addition to hands-on research, undergraduate students will engage in independent projects to gain hands-on experience. Students will learn about modern biological systems through courses in cancer biology, neuroscience, plant biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and cellular and molecular biology.
The program emphasizes diversity and inclusion by attracting underrepresented students to health and wellness fields. The goal is to increase the number of underrepresented students in health, medical, and public policy research and expand the scope of these fields. The program targets students from low-income backgrounds and racial/ethnic minorities with one year remaining before graduation. The students participating in this program gain hands-on experience in diverse health care fields and gain a deeper understanding of their educational options and professional goals.
Undergraduate students can also gain professional experience through SMDEP. The Summer Health Professions Education Program provides free education to underrepresented students and strengthens academic proficiency. It also prepares underrepresented students for health professions school. Its participants come from socioeconomic and educational backgrounds and represent a wider range of health care fields. It also offers a stipend to participants.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s National Environmental Public Health Internship Program
The Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s National Environmental and Public Health Internship Program has been providing internships for students for more than sixty years. These internships are open to rising college seniors, second-year medical students, physician assistant students, and undergraduates who have a strong interest in biomedical research. Each intern works under the direction of a mentor to develop research and communication skills. Interns contribute to ongoing research and present results through oral presentations.
As an environmental health intern, you will assist researchers by providing research support, assisting with the preparation of manuscripts and presentations, and assisting with proposal preparation for federal grants. This program also requires you to have strong computer skills, including proficiency in statistical analysis and spreadsheets. You should have excellent English writing and reading skills, and strong interpersonal skills. In addition, you will need to have at least a bachelor’s degree.
The NEPHIP program is now fully virtual, thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to a traditional internship, the program will offer students mentoring, professional development opportunities, and access to a community of practice. The expanded program also hopes to demonstrate the importance of diversity in the EH workforce. NEHA measures diversity in many variables. While the expanded program may be new to many, previous programs have provided environmental health student interns with valuable work experience and a taste of rewarding careers in STLT environmental public health departments.
The new center is the first of its kind in the Northeast. The center will collaborate with several partner organizations to develop curricula, host health screenings, and develop action plans to address health disparities and wider issues that affect health. The program is run by Dr. Haring and the Center for Indigenous Cancer Research, which will also support the internship program. The interns will be trained in various aspects of cancer prevention and control.
CDC’s Undergraduate Public Health Scholars (CUPS) program

As part of their CUPS experience, scholars also receive mentorship from CDC staff, who offer career advice and facilitate the process of applying to graduate school.
The University of Nevada, Reno’s Online Master’s in Public Health program
In addition to the traditional coursework, the Online Master’s in Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno includes an extensive list of practical skills and field experiences. Students complete an internship in a public health organization and six elective units. Applicants must complete a practicum in addiction treatment or prevention or a field experience in public health. After graduation, students receive ongoing career guidance from the program’s faculty.
The School of Community Health Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is an accredited school with nearly 28,000 Rebels and a 22:1 student-to-faculty ratio. It offers affordable Master’s in Public Health programs and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). In addition, students can apply for the Mary Guinan/Shawn Gerstenberger Scholarship, which covers the cost of the 45-credit MPH. The curriculum includes four concentrations centered around an internship experience, which integrates 200 hours of fieldwork.
The program’s renowned academics are backed by a strong academic foundation, including the National Institutes of Health and Human Development. Students enrolled in the Online Master’s in Public Health program at the University of Nevada, Reno may complete an internship in a public health agency, or they can pursue a specialization in a public health area such as nutrition, environmental health, and global health. The University of Nevada, Reno’s Online master’s in public health program is designed for working professionals.
